Goldust had always been one of the weirdest stars all by himself. When he was randomly teamed with Booker T it seemed even weirder, but it actually turned out to be one of the best combinations of two singles wrestlers that there's ever been. It was Goldust who first approached Booker about forming a team. Booker originally resisted Goldust's attempts, but would eventually accept when he was kicked out of the nWo. They had a strangely funny dynamic, and played well off each other's characters. Booker had always demonstrated a flair for comedy, but his pairing with Goldust allowed him to explore that side of his character much more than before. He proved to be the perfect foil for Goldust's strange behaviour, and although it was never explained why Goldust liked Booker so much, he proved to be the ideal candidate. It was obvious that Booker & Goldust were having a genuinely great time working with each other, and they were bringing out the best in each other. Fans always respond to that, and BookDust became immeasurably popular, with their matches and interactions becoming one of the best parts of Raw during their time as a team.
