Whilst playing leader for his own patented stable, the Straight Edge Society, Punk drew from the conventions of guru narcissism in a way that would put Seth Rollins and Brodie Lee to shame. The more insolent he became, the more fans seemed to adore it.

The foundations of his rhetoric were rocked and exposed as hypocrisy during his feud with Ray Mysterio. Mysterio vowed to shave Punk's seismic lock of long black hair during the 2010 Over the Limit pay per view. As predicted, the fans got what they wanted, but rather than being seated in the somewhat comfortable looking barber's chair outside of the ring, Punk ended up handcuffed to the ropes while Mysterio ruthlessly butchered his scalp.

The whole thing looked pretty horrid. Ray Mysterio, despite being the good guy, was vicious in putting the razor to CM Punk. To make matters worse, Punk was bleeding from the forehead the entire time. This may or may not have been intended, but it ultimately added to the deranged nature of this supposedly triumphant segment.
