Fledgling wrestling companies often throw out new and radical ideas in order to establish themselves, generate a bit of buzz, and get some attention. This risk-taking is to be commended, but there is no universe in which making Disco Inferno a main eventer was ever going to work.

Glen Gilberti, the man behind the Dancing Fool gimmick in WCW, joined TNA right at the very start. His first main event was Weekly PPV #47, but the most incredible match he ever had was when he faced Jeff Jarrett for the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Championship seven days later.

Anyone who likes to complain about Jarrett being a top guy need only look at this to gain some perspective. Gilberti was nowhere near the calibre of star that could pass for a world title contender and yet, here he was, for all the world to see.

Mercifully, Disco did not win the world title and his TNA career quickly fizzled out. Since then, he has forged a healthy career getting angry on podcasts, his listeners unaware of how close he once came to winning the oldest wrestling championship in the world.
