10 Weirdest UFC Fighting Styles
7. San Soo
San Soo Kung Fu is a branch of the original style that incorporates throws, strikes to vulnerable areas and debilitating pressure point holds. The man behind the style was the martial artist known as Jimmy Haw Hoo.
UFC 2 saw San Soo represented for the first time ever, with Thaddeus Luster - an apparent seventh-degree black belt in the art - and it's fair to say his efforts in utilising the style fell a bit flat.
Luster faced off against Dutch sambo fighter (and porn theatre owner) Frank Hamaker and the former managed to get Hamaker to the ground with a hair-pull trip, but lost that position in quick succession and lost the bout via submission.
Lost to the sands of time, San Soo hasn't been seen in the Octagon since and based on this showing, it's hard to argue that it is deserving of a comeback.
Kung Fu has never fully taken off inside the cage. This perhaps is down to the speed of MMA and the martial art not being equipped to defend itself against other forms. San Soo can claim to have a five time World Champion Kickboxer Kathy Long in their ranks - holding an eighth degree black belt - so, it's not been a complete failure.
