10 Weirdest Wrestling Characters (That Actually Worked)

6. The Rock

Now, you may be thinking €˜The Rock!?€™ what€™s so weird about The Rock?...Which is totally understandable. The Rock is cool, he€™s good looking, he€™s exciting, he€™s fun to watch and, as a result of all the above points combined, he€™s one of the most successful pro wrestlers of all time. So, why is his character on a list of the weirdest wrestling characters ever? Well, for one, The Rock has no friends. Dude is a total loner. When teaming with Mankind, €˜The Great One€™ pretty much refused to acknowledge his geeky, approval-seeking sidekick. Even as a member of The Nation of Domination stable, Rocky pretty much kept to himself. As a result, throughout The Rock€™s career, whenever he was on the receiving end of a beatdown, rarely, if ever, did anyone come to his rescue. I mean, apparently NOBODY backstage liked The Rock. But that€™s not all. Not by a long shot. Have you noticed how The Rock always talks about himself in the third person? Its never, €œI say, you should know your role and shut your mouth. Do you smell what I€™m cooking?€ is it? No. It isn€™t. Also, what€™s with those crazy shirts? Also, why wear sunglasses indoors? At night? Also also, outside of Jim from American Pie, nobody likes pie that much. Nobody. So here we have a 6,5€ loner, who talks endlessly about how great he is, (but only ever in the first person), who wears crazy-ass shirts, is seemingly obsessed with pie, hermaphrodites and electricity and who wears sunglasses indoors at all times. You want weird? It just doesn€™t GET any weirder than that.

I am a professional author and lifelong comic books/pro wrestling fan. I also work as a journalist as well as writing comic books (I also draw), screenplays, stage plays, songs and prose fiction. I don't generally read or reply to comments here on What Culture (too many trolls!), but if you follow my Twitter (@heyquicksilver), I'll talk to you all day long! If you are interested in reading more of my stuff, you can find it on http://quicksilverstories.weebly.com/ (my personal site, which has other wrestling/comics/pop culture stuff on it). I also write for FLiCK http://www.flickonline.co.uk/flicktion, which is the best place to read my fiction work. Oh yeah - I'm about to become a Dad for the first time, so if my stuff seems more sentimental than usual - blame it on that! Finally, I sincerely appreciate every single read I get. So if you're reading this, thank you, you've made me feel like Shakespeare for a day! (see what I mean?) Latcho Drom, - CQ
