10 Weirdest Wrestling Characters (That Actually Worked)
6. The Rock
Now, you may be thinking The Rock!? whats so weird about The Rock?...Which is totally understandable. The Rock is cool, hes good looking, hes exciting, hes fun to watch and, as a result of all the above points combined, hes one of the most successful pro wrestlers of all time. So, why is his character on a list of the weirdest wrestling characters ever? Well, for one, The Rock has no friends. Dude is a total loner. When teaming with Mankind, The Great One pretty much refused to acknowledge his geeky, approval-seeking sidekick. Even as a member of The Nation of Domination stable, Rocky pretty much kept to himself. As a result, throughout The Rocks career, whenever he was on the receiving end of a beatdown, rarely, if ever, did anyone come to his rescue. I mean, apparently NOBODY backstage liked The Rock. But thats not all. Not by a long shot. Have you noticed how The Rock always talks about himself in the third person? Its never, I say, you should know your role and shut your mouth. Do you smell what Im cooking? is it? No. It isnt. Also, whats with those crazy shirts? Also, why wear sunglasses indoors? At night? Also also, outside of Jim from American Pie, nobody likes pie that much. Nobody. So here we have a 6,5 loner, who talks endlessly about how great he is, (but only ever in the first person), who wears crazy-ass shirts, is seemingly obsessed with pie, hermaphrodites and electricity and who wears sunglasses indoors at all times. You want weird? It just doesnt GET any weirder than that.
I am a professional author and lifelong comic books/pro wrestling fan. I also work as a journalist as well as writing comic books (I also draw), screenplays, stage plays, songs and prose fiction.
I don't generally read or reply to comments here on What Culture (too many trolls!), but if you follow my Twitter (@heyquicksilver), I'll talk to you all day long!
If you are interested in reading more of my stuff, you can find it on http://quicksilverstories.weebly.com/ (my personal site, which has other wrestling/comics/pop culture stuff on it).
I also write for FLiCK http://www.flickonline.co.uk/flicktion, which is the best place to read my fiction work.
Oh yeah - I'm about to become a Dad for the first time, so if my stuff seems more sentimental than usual - blame it on that!
Finally, I sincerely appreciate every single read I get. So if you're reading this, thank you, you've made me feel like Shakespeare for a day! (see what I mean?)
