10 Weirdest Wrestling Characters (That Actually Worked)

7. Curry Man

Sometimes referred to as €˜The King of The Indies€™, Christopher Daniels is a fantastic wrestler who is well known to TNA and indie wrestling fans as €˜The Fallen Angel€™ and also as one half of the tag team Bad Influence (with Frankie Kazarian). However, whilst in Japan, Daniels started experimenting with another character, a bizarre, masked persona that he called €˜Curry Man€™. Eventually, he brought the character over to the US on a Dragon€™s Gate show and even portrayed Curry Man on TNA television, where he teamed with Shark Boy, another ludicrous gimmick. Billed from Tokyo, Japan, Curry Man is obsessed with dancing, eating spicy food and communicating only in €˜locker room Japanese€™. Amazingly (and at least partly due to the €˜open secret€™ of his real identity), Curry Man always gets a strong audience reaction whenever he appears, especially from this writer, who consistently (and unashamedly) marks out for him, time and time again. In US indie promotion Chikara, Curry Man even teamed with Los Ice Creams, a bizarre frozen dessert-themed stable that at one time included current WWE superstar Cesaro. Konnichiwa!

I am a professional author and lifelong comic books/pro wrestling fan. I also work as a journalist as well as writing comic books (I also draw), screenplays, stage plays, songs and prose fiction. I don't generally read or reply to comments here on What Culture (too many trolls!), but if you follow my Twitter (@heyquicksilver), I'll talk to you all day long! If you are interested in reading more of my stuff, you can find it on http://quicksilverstories.weebly.com/ (my personal site, which has other wrestling/comics/pop culture stuff on it). I also write for FLiCK http://www.flickonline.co.uk/flicktion, which is the best place to read my fiction work. Oh yeah - I'm about to become a Dad for the first time, so if my stuff seems more sentimental than usual - blame it on that! Finally, I sincerely appreciate every single read I get. So if you're reading this, thank you, you've made me feel like Shakespeare for a day! (see what I mean?) Latcho Drom, - CQ
