10 Weirdest Wrestling Characters (That Didn’t Work)
9. Willow
Dirty burgers are like dirty sheets. The more you eat, the more you hate squealed Willow, the masked Jeff Hardy, on one TNA broadcast. The above statement was presumably made in response to the wrestling dirt sheets calling Willow a sh!t character. The funny thing was that, no matter how many times TNA announcers Mike Tenay and Taz told us that Willow was Jeff Hardys violent side unleashed, all that really came across was Jeffs desire to cosplay as a Goth Mary Poppins unleashed. Hardy initially developed the character whilst wrestling for the home grown OMEGA promotion which he developed with his brother Matt. ...Frankly, thats probably where Willow should have stayed. Aside from the nonsensical promos, aside from the thoroughly stupid outfit, aside from the fact that the fans paid to see Jeff Hardy, not an umbrella-toting nutcase with a Jim Carrey laugh, Willow was just a completely stupid character. In the ring, he was no more or less violent than Jeff Hardy and more often than not ended up taking a beating after failing to connect with a high-risk manoeuvre, just like Jeff Hardy does, every single night. For the record, Jeff Hardy is super frickin cool, it just seems that, if the Willow experiment proves anything, its that it takes more than a stupid voice, a weird outfit and a spoonful of sugar to change your personality.
