27 years after Lawrence Taylor became an unlikely WrestleMania main eventer, another improbable name competed in the night's final match.

"Stone Cold" Steve Austin had bowed out of wrestling at WrestleMania XIX as a result of mounting injuries. Over the following 19 years, in which many "retired" superstars returned to the ring, Austin never did.

Until Kevin Owens started slagging off Texas.

In what was originally advertised as an interview segment, Owens came face-to-face with The Rattlesnake, running down his home state and its population. The Canadian then laid out a challenge to Austin for a No Holds Barred match and that was it. The Bionic Redneck was back.

At 57 years old, Austin battered Owens around the AT&T Stadium, taking bumps that a performer half his age would have baulked at. Through the power of Texas, beer, and stubbornness, Stone Cold nailed KO with a Stunner and pinned him, giving him his first official victory since he beat Eric Bischoff on Raw in 2003.

Two years after Austin returned to the ring, The Rock also main-evented WrestleMania, proving that the Attitude Era can never die.
