10 Wild Creative Pitches Wrestlers Made To Get Into WWE

6. Kenny Omega Tries To Race Into The Fed

In 2011, Kenny Omega sat down with Colt Cabana on the Art of Wresting podcast to discuss his career, journey and hopes.

It's worth a re-listen; Omega was steadfast in his vision of what wrestling should be, or rather what it didn't have to be, and he went on to realise his convictions when it felt wildly improbable at the time. He traded developmental horror stories with his host, and discussed the ways in which he tried to escape the infamously disastrous feeder league that was Deep South Wrestling.

A total sh*t-show that barely bothered to book shows nor train wrestlers to do much beyond the absolute basics and killing them with cardio drills, DSW also encouraged a culture in which the trainees humiliated themselves in order to get out of training.

Omega had a half-decent idea to get on TV and out of hell, but this isn't that. That's on the next slide.

He wanted to do, or felt like he'd at least get on TV doing, a gimmick based on the Fast & Furious franchise. He reasoned that, since Paul Burchill was essentially playing Jack Sparrow, WWE was interested in ripping off the blockbuster scene.

Omega did fulfil the Bob Holly prophesy as the 'Belt Collector', but he never did get to race a car.
