Kenny Omega: WWE developmental prospect always scans as strange. It happened, but it was never a good fit.

Omega actually enjoyed the conditioning drills to which he was subjected, but, by his own admission, never subscribed to WWE's strict approach. He thought it was stifling and unlikely to advance his career in a meaningful way, and he was ultimately proved correct upon leaving. His own unique approach transformed the very industry, where he was once a wacky no-mark that Deep South Wrestling higher-ups didn't know what to make of.

Any suggestion that he didn't want to commit to the system if it met him halfway is wide of the mark, however; this was a man who volunteered to spend a lot of time in the company of Matt Striker in order to get over.

Yes: as he recounted to Cabana, he pitched an idea to debut on television as the student of Matt Striker when he was working his teacher gimmick.

This really wasn't bad, as there was much to play with; the idea of a prodigious Omega becoming the teacher himself by showing Striker up gradually, and earning the support of fans along the way, actually had legs.
