7. Goldberg's Winning Streak Ended At Starrcade 1998
Bill Goldberg was - by far - the biggest home grown success story WCW could ever recant. Exploding out of the Power Plant development facility in late-1997, Goldberg quickly became a phenomenon. Winning match after match, the man was booked to tear through everybody in his path. He even defeated Hollywood Hogan in July, 1998 to win the WCW World Title. Fans loved the idea that Goldberg couldn't be stopped. After a few years of the same characters on top of shows, he genuinely felt like something fresh. Signs were commonplace at shows, with people keeping track of the man's winning streak. It was something for fans to sink their teeth into, and helped make Goldberg a main event level star in rapid fashion. At Starrcade 1998, that all came to an end. Kevin Nash defeated Goldberg to win the World Title, ending his winning run in the process. At the time, fans celebrated, because Nash was still a popular choice as champion. If people had know what was to come, they would have mourned. Goldberg was WCW's big chance to move away from the nWo story, but he was just another expendable babyface.
