10 World Champions WWE Never Believed In

3. Christian

Prior to 2011, Christian was never closer to becoming a world champion in WWE than he was in 2005. He caught fire in his feud with John Cena and was the fan favorite to win the Triple Threat WWE Championship match at Vengeance. Sadly, he was unsuccessful in capturing the title, and once he was moved to SmackDown via the WWE Draft, he faded off into obscurity before departing on his own terms that fall. There never plans in place for him to a main event player upon his return to the organization in 2009, either. Instead, he was placed on the ECW brand, and despite reigning as ECW champion for a lengthy period of time, his main goal was putting over the talent of tomorrow. But they were left with no other choice but to put the World Heavyweight Championship on him in the spring of 2011 when Edge abruptly retired. Besides, Alberto Del Rio was destined for bigger and better things on Raw and WWE wanted to give the fans a feel-good ending, so Christian won the world title in an monumental moment at Extreme Rules. His run was short-lived, however, as he dropped the strap to Randy Orton two days later at the SmackDown tapings. He won back the belt at Money in the Bank before losing it again to Orton at SummerSlam. It's no secret that Vince McMahon was never high on Captain Charisma with it being rumored he wanted his face to be blurred by a blue dot. Yes, apparently that was being seriously considered by the WWE Chairman at one point. He deserved one more run on top pre-retirement in 2013, but management didn't see him as being on the level of other top-tier talent.
