10 Worst AEW Booking Decisions

6. CM Punk And John Moxley Hot Potato

CM Punk Jon Moxley
AEW

The recent Jon Moxley and CM Punk feud for the unified AEW World Championship could have been an all-time great one but the decision to have two matches instead of one tainted it. In theory, having Punk be humbled at the hands of a dominant Moxley could have worked, but having the rematch just a few weeks later did not allow the story to form properly before it was over.

The 'Best in the World' returning to Chicago as a hometown hero to conquer Moxley after a longer second reign would have been more ideal, but AEW was intent on rushing things. Punk was by no means an unanimous favourite in the feud and even had some detractors during his match at All Out 2022 when he regained the title.

The events that occurred after All Out and CM Punk's uncertain future with the company made the unwise booking decision appear even more disastrous. Jon Moxley is once again AEW Champion which lends even more credence to the idea that he should have just held the title longer before Punk challenged him again.
