10 Worst Anticlimaxes In WWE History

9. The Gobbledy Gooker - Survivor Series 1990

For weeks, a giant egg had sat in plain view on WWF television and at live events. A giant egg, which had been set up and teased to be something big, something that might change the very face of the company. Well… no one was really buying that (a giant egg is a giant egg, after all), but it still had the fans curiosity piqued. Just what was inside?

At Survivor Series, all would be revealed, as veteran ring announcer Gene Okerlund hyped up the hatching of the egg to reveal… a man in a turkey costume. Worse, a man in a turkey costume who made nothing but a gobbling noise, called himself the Gobbledy Gooker, and insisted that ‘Mean’ Gene dance with him in the middle of the ring, while announcers ‘Rowdy’ Roddy Piper and Gorilla Monsoon tried their best to put the act over to the cringing folks at home.

Fans in attendance booed like the WWF had crapped on Christmas, and with good reason. ‘A dancing turkey’ is supposed to be a metaphor for something terrible: “No Holds Barred is a dancing turkey of a movie”, that kind of thing. It’s not supposed to be a literal description of the terrible thing. That would be the worst thing in the world.

Actually, as it turned out, the worst thing in the world was the Gobbledy Gooker being played by the ultra-talented scion of Latino wrestling’s greatest family, Hector Guerrero. The poor man.
