10 Worst Booked Dream Matches

9. Team WWF Vs The WCW/ECW Alliance

AEW Full Gear 2020

Branded "the Inaugural Brawl" by the alliteration and rhyme-obsessed Vince McMahon, the supposed first battle between WWE and WCW/ECW superstars wasn't even the first battle, and that was just one underlying issue with a storyline that fans had been fantasy booking for decades.

The idea that a WWE/WCW/ECW war could actually take place was pie in the sky stuff at the commercial height of the industry during the late-1990s, but McMahon's purchase of World Championship Wrestling (and mere usage of the Extreme outfit's gimmicks and trademarks) rapidly made real the worst outcome of such a situation.

Ahead of July's monster-drawing pay-per-view Invasion, wrestlers engaged in fights with one another to such a degree that the trope was already overused beyond Steve Austin's faux-babyface turn on the go-home Raw. Think the boredom of modern Survivor Series builds, but the wrestlers are fighting over years of vitriolic animosity instead of shirt colours.

The curiosity of just how such a night would even look was enough to make the show the highest-grossing non-WrestleMania show ever, but the instant hype triggered evident complacency that repeatedly showed itself before and after the event.
