10 Worst Booked WWE Champions Of All Time

1. Rey Mysterio

Rey Mysterio’s World Title win at WrestleMania 22 was a great babyface moment for one of the most popular superstars of all time. However, it was clear rather quickly that WWE and Vince McMahon had no desire to push Rey as a top guy despite putting the title on him at the biggest show of the year.

Rey would be labelled on commentary as an “underdog champion”, which was clearly the belief of McMahon who decided that Rey’s first feud as champion should be with JBL. To build towards the PPV showdown at Judgment Day 2006 between Rey and JBL, JBL would put Rey against mystery opponents each and every week. These names included Mark Henry and The Great Khali who both pinned Rey with ease in featured matches on SmackDown. It was really hard to see just what booking Rey in this manner was achieving, as it just made him look like a weak champion.

Rey would win the PPV match against JBL by cheating, which did no favours in making him legitimate or credible. Following a loss to Rob Van Dam at ECW: Head to Head, WWE clearly decided it was finally time to take the World Title from Rey.

The title loss would come at The Great American Bash, as Rey lost to King Booker after Chavo Guerrero turned on him. Rey managed to have a 112 day reign as World Champion and he wasn’t once presented as credible, which raises the question: why did they bother putting the belt on him in the first place?
