10 Worst Booked WWE Champions Of All Time
4. CM Punk
Don’t be alarmed: CM Punk did indeed have one of the most legendary WWE Title reigns between 2011-2013. However, his first reign was booked unbelievably poorly. If you recall, Punk won the World Title after cashing in on Edge during an episode of RAW in the summer of 2008 and would go on to have a 69-day reign with the Big Gold Belt.
The problem with the booking of Punk’s first reign was that he wasn’t a strong enough babyface to carry the title to begin with. This was at a time when Batista and John Cena were still very much full time stars, meaning that Punk’s storylines as World Champion were never the focal point of a show or a PPV. Punk would have two PPV matches as World Champion. One would be at The Great American Bash PPV which resulted in a double DQ in a match against Batista and the second would be a ten-minute win over JBL at SummerSlam. Neither of these matches were main events or positioned as top matches on either PPV.
Punk was supposed to have a third PPV match, defending the title in a Championship Scramble at Unforgiven. Sadly, WWE opted to take him out of the match by way of Randy Orton punting him in the head, and Chris Jericho took his place and won the World Title. Punk’s underwhelming first reign ended without him even wrestling in the match.
