2. The Ascension

Very strange.

If the Ascension tandem of Konnor and Viktor did p*ss the wrong people off backstage ahead of their main roster promotion, this transgression did not transfer to the wrestling media. Though that media is hardly comprehensive, we're still left to assume that they didn't, which renders the events of January 19, 2015 utterly inexplicable.

Konnor and Viktor cosplayed as the Road Warriors because WWE instructed them to. JBL, channeling his backstage self, failed to see past the faction and, with a very strange sense of propriety, proceeded to lariat the life out of the team in conjunction with the New Age Outlaws and the nWo. It wasn't as stiff as the vintage Public Enemy beatings of yore, but it was somehow even uglier. The impression that these old fellas just fancied reliving their glory years for a few minutes - in the process stigmatising the Ascension for years - was impossible to escape. Unlike the other entries on this list, the Ascension's ceiling was low. But still: why shatter it over their poor heads?

The Ascension are still around now, despite having never recovered.

Very strange.
