Shark Boy is a bit of a cult favorite by TNA fans, has a gimmick that isn't meant to be taken seriously, and isn't a TNA creation, but if you really stop and think about it... your head begins to hurt. He's a human being with shark traits? A shark with human being traits? A shark hiding from the authorities under an assumed identity? After a storyline coma, Shark Boy would return to TNA as a man/shark imitating a shark/man, only dressed as "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and taking bits and pieces from Austin's entire shtick, from drinking beer ("clam juice" in this instance) to using the Stunner as a finisher (Chummer). There were entertaining moments with the gimmick, but it made even less sense than it ever had, and only made people scratch their heads. As a comedy character, he has never been pushed as anything like a major player, even though the aforementioned cult status made sure he was almost always over. Often times, though, people would wonder just what the point was. Again, this wasn't wrestling in decades gone by, where Shark Boy probably would have fit in better. This was the current, modern-day product, and it made the entire Shark Boy character stand out, but not always for the best reasons.
