Abyss has had his fair share of detractors through the years, with people accusing him of being a Kane or Mankind ripoff, depending on the storyline that TNA was currently running at the time. He's about as one-dimensional a wrestler as you're going to find, seemingly unable to do anything in a match unless it involves blood, barbed wire, thumbtacks and other varieties of "plunder". At some point, someone in charge for TNA sat down and thought it would be a good idea to turn the "monster" into his "alter-ego", which would be his "brother", Joseph Park. We were told that Park was a lawyer, and that he had no idea on the whereabouts of his brother, who had disappeared. We were treated to some terribly acted segments involving Park, who would always be given television time for some reason, even though he was only the "brother" of a TNA wrestler and shouldn't have been receiving all of that. People would challenge Park to fights, because why not, and he would get beaten up... a lot. However, when he would get beaten up, he would bleed, and when he would see his own blood, he would "transform", and we'd see pieces of Abyss come out. It continued to be the same, boring thing every week, until the "shocking" reveal that Abyss and Joseph Park were, in fact, the same person all along. Nobody knows why TNA did it, because it did nothing to help Abyss in any way, and only made his character's time with the company more convoluted.
