10 Worst Excuses For Losing A Fight
1. Deontay Wilder - Entrance Gear Was Too Heavy
Tyson Fury did exactly what he said he would do in the pair's legendary Heavyweight title rematch in 2020. He walked down Deontay Wilder and knocked him out. OK, he TKO'd him but what matters is he stopped the fight. A feat that seemed to be a pipe-dream for a Heavyweight who had been routinely poked at by the 'Bronze Bomber' for having 'pillow fists'.
After being stopped in the seventh round, Wilder disappeared to the hospital and didn't take any immediate interviews. Many fans still respected the former champion and weren't completely against him activating a clause in his contract which would see him given the chance to reclaim his gold.
That was until he eventually opened his mouth a few days later and pointed to his extravagant entrance gear as the reason why he lost the titanic dual. Yes, his Sauron-esque get-up did weigh a sizeable 40 lbs. But, Wilder took it off before the fight. So, regardless how heavy it may have been, his legs had ample opportunity to recover from the strain before the clash even began.
Wilder could have just puffed out his chest and claimed he would come back stronger in the rematch. Yet, he chose to paint himself as a complete idiot by claiming that his own decision to wear a heavy costume was his downfall on the night.
