10 Worst Excuses For Terrible Wrestling Moments

8. ‘The Fiend’ & Seth Rollins Need A Rematch Stip

What Happened: Seth Rollins was mentally pushed to the brink by Bray Wyatt's 'Fiend' hijinks, so he snapped and covered the masked gimmick in various weapons at Hell In A Cell 2019. Then, Rollins smashed Bray with a sledgehammer and the referee stopped the match. Problem? It was a Cell match, and there was no way fans would accept the stoppage.

The Excuse: Say hello to the worst kind of month-to-month booking.

WWE booked that finish for two reasons. One, they thought it'd protect Wyatt's 'Fiend' character. Two, it handed creative an easy route to a follow up match over in Saudi Arabia at Crown Jewel. The pre-match hype for that sequel claimed the bout "could not be stopped for any reason", which was confusing because they didn't add an "*except pinfalls" disclaimer.

In short, the bogus Cell finish no-one liked was seemingly only booked to get to this second helping of Bray vs. Seth. That was one seriously rotten excuse for smashing the HIAC structure's aura. Being honest, it'd been dangling by a thread due to the formulaic annual PPV format, but that finish was unforgivably sh*te, and following up with a rematch that acted as a halfhearted apology sucked too.
