10 Worst Excuses For Terrible Wrestling Moments

2. Tony Khan Wants To Call CM Punk's Bluff

What Happened: Tony Khan aired grainy behind the scenes footage of CM Punk scuffling with Jack Perry at All In London in 2023 on the 10 April 2024 episode of Dynamite. This was supposed to clarify comments Punk had made during an interview with Ariel Helwani and vindicate AEW's position/Tony saying he'd feared for his life.

The Excuse: Showing the footage backfired spectacularly.

The Young Bucks introduced the segment, and it...proved that Punk had been telling the truth about his part in things. Basically, this was a major own goal from AEW and Tony. It wasn't the "gotcha" moment he presumably thought it'd be beforehand, and it led to shaking heads all over social media.

Airing the Punk footage backfired for two distinct reasons. Firstly, bolstering a current WWE star's claims was a terrible misuse of precious TV time on AEW's flagship show. Second, the moment suggested new badass heel and Elite member Jack Perry couldn't stand up for himself. If this was meant to make Perry look like a star, then it failed.

Good lord. What were they thinking?!
