A big problem with WWE in that 2011-2012 period is they really lacked top heels. When CM Punk turned in the summer of 2012 he filled that void, but before that they were hurting. There just wasn't a lot there. As a result of the lack of top heels, WWE decide to put retired former wrestler and on screen GM at the time, John Laurinaitis, out there as the top heel. He was booked like a bumbling idiot most of the time. People laughed at him a lot for being a fool. The main event of Over The Limit 2012 was Cena vs. Laurinaitis. On the same card they had WWE Champion CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan in what was one of the best matches of the year. Who did they put on last? Cena, of course. Cena's match with Laurinaitis was 17 minutes long and booked like a total joke. Basically, Cena toyed with him for the majority of the match. It was like a poor man's Austin vs. McMahon in 1999. Big Show showed up, turned heel like he tends to do and helped Laurinaitis win. A month later at No Way Out, Cena faced Show in a Steel Cage match that was so boring it sounded like the crowd had fallen asleep. Viewers at home probably did! That led to Laurinaitis being fired. It sucked that WWE did such a poor job with their active roster that Cena had to feud with a non-wrestler. It was so boring.
