10 Worst Finishes To WWE WrestleMania Matches
5. Miss WrestleMania Battle Royale (WrestleMania XXV)
On the one hand, it seems churlish to complain about the conclusion of a match like the Miss WrestleMania Battle Royale. Before WWE made the overdue decision to actually care about its women’s roster, this was about all you could hope for as a Diva: a spot in a 25 woman, six minute match during which the crowd would, at best, not jeer at you.
But the ending to this one is so bad that it would be downright irresponsible not to mention it. After 24 women have been evicted (including talented performers like Beth Phoenix, Gail Kim, Natalya, and Mickie James), we’re presented with our winner - Santina Marella, sister to comedy Italian wrestler Santino.
Only, it’s not Santina Marella, is it. It’s actually Santino in a dress and a wig. The entrants were snuck into the ring as Kid Rock played (indignity upon indignity) so as not to spoil the surprise; the crowd picks up on it pretty quickly, and Jerry Lawler as usual does himself proud on commentary discussing at length the relative attractiveness of his colleagues.
It’s one thing to not bother booking your women’s division, but to treat the entire roster as a joke is contemptible stuff from WWE. Luckily they’d only have seven further years to wait before getting a truly great match at WrestleMania.
