At the very least, Layla vs. Summer Rae had some storyline surrounding it at Money In The Bank 2014.

Fandango was installed as the Special Guest Referee for the bout, although the whole thing seemed a tad lame. After all, these women were fighting over the dancing man's affections, something that would horrify anyone who champions the WWE Women's Title picture nowadays.

Clearly, this was toilet and merchandise break fodder. Despite all of the story context, Layla vs. Summer only went a paltry 3 minutes. Under different circumstances, this could have worked, but it was (once again) completely inadequate for a pay-per-view situation.

After Layla had won, she embraced Fandango as her prize as Summer cried mid-ring. The whole thing felt crass, as Fandango had also been checking out both women vying for his attention whilst the match was in progress.

Whenever somebody complains about women being under-utilised in WWE now, show them this match to make it clear just how much things have improved in the past year or so. Layla vs. Rae's only redeeming quality was that creative at least tried to put some story in.
