4. Shane McMahon - Best In The World

Speaking of people winning things they weren't supposed to be in...

At Crown Jewel 2018, WWE held the finals of the World Cup to determine who was "The Best In The World". It came down to The Miz and Dolph Ziggler (because of course it did) but Miz suffered an injury before the match could start. Unable to compete, Miz allowed someone to take his place, someone who truly embodies the phrase "Best In The World". That's right - Shane McMahon!

McMahon not only took Miz's place, but pinned Ziggler to win the match, the trophy, and the title of "Best In The World". That's right, 48-year-old Shane McMahon was, officially, the greatest wrestler on the planet. Naturally, fans were furious about this. Not only did it render the entire tournament completely pointless, but it muddied the waters of Shane's character. Yes, he would use this victory to fuel his heel turn but, at the time, he was supposed to be a babyface.

Although Shane's heel work following this would be good (for a while), in the moment this was awful. Another maddening WWE swerve, another pointless gimmick match, and another giant middle finger to the fans.
