Rob Van Dam's defeat of John Cena at One Night Stand 2006 for the WWE Championship set the company on fire, leading to a surge of interest in the old ECW brand and - ultimately - the decision to bring it back. RVD was on a roll, and looked the perfect candidate to lead ECW towards a future of legitimacy alongside Raw and Smackdown. Instead, he got pulled over in possession of marijuana with Sabu, leading to a 30-day suspension from the WWE and being forced to drop both his ECW and WWE championships on successive nights.
