10 Worst Movies Starring Wrestlers (That You Probably Haven't Seen)

9. Roddy Piper - Buy & Cell (1987)

Bagwell Day of the Warrior
Empire Pictures

It's hard to believe that this film was only released a year before the late Roddy Piper's legendary turn as John Nada in They Live. That particular John Carpenter classic was one of the coolest and cleverest films of the '80s, and Piper showed he could actually be a leading man if the material was right.

In this one, however, he is basically a barking, snarling, grunting brute called ‘Cowboy’. Because nothing screams Cowboy like a Canadian wrestler with a Scottish gimmick.

Buy & Cell isn't a good movie by any means, but unlike a lot of the garbage on this list, it certainly is competent. It's made by actual film people, with real actors. In fact, the main antagonist is Malcolm McDowell, who is undoubtedly one of the finest on-screen villains ever seen in cinema. Regardless of quality though, it's a pretty excellent piece of '80s nostalgia, and given the fact that it features Lewis from Revenge of the Nerds as well as Michael Winslow from Police Academy, it literally couldn't be any more of its time.

It was hard to find on video and particularly on DVD because it only ever got a release in Australia, but you can find it online now in a few different places, so check it out if you're in the mood for old school schlock. Just make sure you toast the Hot Rod while you do.
