6. The Invasion Angle

Much like that earlier nWo angle, another possibility that the acquisition of WCW provided was the staging of a company vs. company invasion angle.

People would've loved to see the likes of Goldberg, Sting, and Ric Flair take on guys like Stone Cold Steve Austin, the Undertaker, and the Rock, but when the much-clamored Invasion storyline finally played out, it wasn’t quite what anyone had envisaged.

There was no Goldberg, no Sting, no Flair in sight. We didn’t even get ex-WWE guys like Hulk Hogan or Randy Savage coming back to their old haunts. Instead, we had Booker T and a motley crew of guys like Hugh Morrus and Shawn Stasiak trying to take on the WWE’s finest.

To say it was watered down would be an understatement, as contractual issues prevented the big guns from coming out and making this a true WWE vs. WCW affair.

On top of that, Vince McMahon’s ego seemingly prevented him from allowing the WCW guys to get any kind of one-up on WWE. Even their win at the Invasion PPV came courtesy of Austin’s defection as opposed to the Alliance being the better team.

Ultimately, the depleted roster and one-sided booking made this a massive anticlimax.
