10 Worst PPVs Of WWE PG Era
8. Crown Jewel 2018
The relationship between WWE and Saudi Arabia is one of the more distasteful subplots of the modern wrestling industry. This issue was further developed during the lead up the Crown Jewel PPV in 2018. Due to the controversy surrounding the killing of Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi, WWE faced criticism for continuing the PPV and was asked to stop its business ventures in the country by numerous parties.
WWE instead opted to continue the event but opted not to mention the fact that it was taking place in Saudi, in a frankly bizarre move. The controversy also led to two of WWE's top stars, John Cena and Daniel Bryan, boycotting the show completely and deciding to distance themselves from the event.
The PPV featured the in-ring return of Shawn Michaels after nearly a decade of retirement, teaming in an horrendous tag match with Triple H vs. The Undertaker & Kane. The match was a complete mess, where seemingly everything that could go wrong in the match eventually did.
Additional matches included Shane McMahon winning a tournament to become "the Best in the World", which naturally fans didn't appreciate. Other matches included Braun Strowman being squashed by Brock Lesnar and AJ Styles defeating Samoa Joe.
