10 Worst Timed Injuries In Wrestling History

8. John Cena's Historic Title Reign Comes Screeching To A Halt

John Cena was arguably at his career peak in 2007. He was bringing in huge numbers - and incredible reactions - wherever he went, not to mention enjoying the longest WWE Title reign in 19 years. It was during this time that John Cena became Super Cena. Sadly, his kryptonite would prove to be a simple hip toss on Mr. Kennedy on an episode of Raw. Upon performing the move, he tore his pectoral muscle clean off. Initial estimates had Cena out of action for potentially a year, meaning the guy WWE had built to be 'the man' would have to unceremoniously end his historic championship run. Having a performer hold on to the title for so long only to give it up without a fight was bad enough, but even worse because it was so close to WrestleMania. Had he been fit, WWE could have generated bucketloads of money by stretching Cena's title run to the annual extravaganza and having him lose the title in a properly-built contest. Instead, the belt bounced around between Triple H and Randy Orton for a while. Cena would defy expectations by returning to the Royal Rumble months ahead of schedule, but in terms of the prestige that had been built for the title he was wearing, the damage was most certainly done.
