WWE has a certain amount of unspoken rules, one of which being if you're not physically able to defend your championship, it will be stripped from you. Triple H, at the height of his reign of terror in 2003, crotch-chopped that rule, which is impressive considering his crotch was indeed chopped.

Goldberg, who had arrived in WWE earlier in the year, was on a hot streak, mowing through all who was "next". By the time SummerSlam rolled around, The Game was indeed "next". But he would have to earn it inside the Elimination Chamber against 4 other superstars. Goldberg mercilessly disposed of most of the field, looking as dominant as ever and giving us an all-time great spot of him spearing Chris Jericho through one of the pods.

When it was Hunter's time to enter, Goldberg broke him out of the pod and dismantled him. All pointed towards Big Bill winning the match and the title at the second biggest show of the year, when a sneaky sledgehammer shot during a spear attempt abruptly ended Goldberg's streak.

Triple H did next to nothing in the match and walked away with the victory for good reason (in his mind, at least). Hunter was nursing a groin injury and wasn't able to compete to his full capacity. Unlike almost every other occasion, when this would necessitate a title switch, he argued that it would make Goldberg's victory greater if he were defeated at full health. It didn't work. Even though Goldberg would win a month later, the shine had worn off and backstage politics crushed another star's potential.
