10 Worst TNA Gimmick Wrestling Matches

1. Reverse Battle Royal

How does it work?

A Battle Royal, only the wrestlers must attempt to run into the ring, rather than remove their opponents from it. The first eight men to make it to the ring were then entered into a normal over the top rope battle royal, and the final two competitors competed in a singles match.

Why is it awful?

It hardly needs explaining, does it?

The fun of a regular Battle Royal is watching wrestlers trying to launch each other over the top tope, and seeing the innovative ways a person can avoid elimination. We get Kofi Kingston handstands, we get the likes of Braun Strowman hurling smaller men out of the ring, and we generally get some high-impact, fast-paced action, once the corner hugging has subsided.

Playing all of that out in reverse just doesn’t work. There’s nothing exciting about watching a bunch of guys Benny Hill-ing around the side of a ring, trying to break away and run into it. It’s like watching eighteen wrestlers all trying to do their entrance at once, before a brawl ensues. Then eight of the men try to do the exact opposite thing they were trying to do a few minutes earlier.

A tacky mixture of unoriginal ideas, nonsensical rules and hampered action, the Reverse Battle Royal stands as one of wrestling’s worst gimmick matches of all time. It doesn’t even possess the shlock value of an Electrified Cage or a Hog Pen – it is simply boring, ill-conceived, and so, so stupid.
