7. Electrified Cage Match

How does it work?

A standard cage match, only the surrounding structure is electrified. No, it isn’t covered in pictures of Dwayne Johnson - it’s been charged with umpteen thousand volts of juice.

Why is it awful?

As it turns out, replacing your regulation cage with thin conductive wires actually makes it look less intimidating, electricity or no.

And the answer is a resounding ‘no’, as there was actually no electricity involved in the Electrified Cage match. A vague humming sound effect was pumped into the arena, and the competitors within the cage (Team 3D and LAX) were told to shake violently if they came in contact with its walls, as lights flashed as if to suggest the structure were syphoning power away from the house lights.

The Electrified Cage does harbour some guilty pleasure moments, though. It has some ridiculous cage spots, some horrible ‘zapped’ acting, Konnan in a wheelchair, Hector Guerrero with a steel chair, and Don West saying “Team Three-Doo”.

Still, that doesn’t get in the way of how utterly unbelievable the whole spectacle is. It’s kind of impossible to get too invested in the match at hand, when even the most gullible viewer can see right through its façade.
