10 Worst TNA Gimmick Wrestling Matches
6. Last Rites Match
How does it work?
It’s a casket match, only the casket has been renamed to ‘Death Bed’ (does WWE have a trademark on the word ‘casket’?) - and said Death Bed is lowered from the ceiling on a platform.
Why is it awful?
Unoriginal and underwhelming, the Last Rites match was TNA’s attempt to provide their ‘spooky’ feuds with some unique stipulations… by completely ripping off a match that had been taking place in the WWF since the early 90s.
The spooky feud in question was Sting vs. Abyss, a rivalry that led to this match at Destination X 2007. But, for the fans in attendance, and the thousands watching at home, their only destination was confusion. Nobody really understood the rules going in (or how they differed from those of a standard Casket or Buried Alive Match) - nor did they really understand what they’d just witnessed, as Sting clobbered Abyss with a candelabra, before lugging him into the death bed.
