January 2010 was an exciting time for TNA fans. For the first time since the Monday Night Wars, a wrestling promotion was going head-to-head with Raw on the same night! They smartly secured a timeslot which began an hour before the WWE's show, allowing time for casual fans to check out the action and hopefully like what they saw. So why on earth did TNA throw this baffling match on first!? For a start, the "Steel Asylum" structure is horrible. It's bright orange and features way too many bars, seriously obstructing a good view of the wrestlers inside. Secondly, the match ended on a DQ! TNA threw some of their most promising athletes in a structure built-up as terrifying and dangerous, and completely cut it short with a cheap finish after only a few minutes. To make matters worse, Homicide - the wrestler who was disqualified for using a baton - was completely destroyed by a returning Jeff Hardy. Jeff entered through the crowd to his atrocious self-sung theme "Modest", which didn't really serve to improve anything. As a triumphant Hardy climbed the Asylum and sat on the roof, the symbolism was hard to ignore - a legendarily unprofessional wrestler better known for his time in the WWE towering over a group of promising TNA stars. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tYt8NTTQAw
