10 Worst Ways The WWE Women’s Championship Has Been Defended
3. Sable Vs Tori (WrestleMania XV)
Whereas John Cena has had to ride the stigma of his Five Moves of Death reputation over the years, Sable carved out an incredibly successful career with one big move to her name. The Sable Bomb aside, Sable was an average worker at the very best, and benefited greatly from being one of the few female faces on WWF television during the blossoming Attitude Era.
Undeniably over with fans, Sable carried the Women’s Championship into its first WrestleMania appearance since WrestleMania X. Unfortunately, her opponent was making her official in ring debut at the event. The lack of experience on both sides was plain to see, with neither woman capable of pulling off a match worthy of a WrestleMania - even one as lacklustre as WrestleMania XV.
Dressed like a strange mix of the forgotten ThunderCat and a comic book villain, Tori took on Sable with both doing their best on the grandest stage. The two did garner some decent crowd reactions, but when you consider that this was the first Women’s Championship match since the reintroduction of the belt, you cannot help feeling woefully underwhelmed.
Despite trying to tell a genuine story, and being allocated a considerable amount of time when compared to the rest of the card, this match was not the showcase of a blossoming division in arguably the hottest period of WWF history.
