10 Worst WWE Championship Matches In WrestleMania History
8. AJ Styles Vs. Shinsuke Nakamura (WrestleMania 34)
You may balk at this match being on this list and placed this relatively high. You may just accuse me of being overly disappointed and having unrealistic expectations. Well, yeah. I was disappointed. We all were. Ever since AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura came to WWE together from New Japan Pro Wrestling, everyone was eagerly anticipating the day they would finally have the rematch of their lauded Tokyo Dome match from 4 January 2016. The fact that it was going to happen at WrestleMania for the WWE Championship blew our minds. Finally, the company was giving the fans an honest-to-god hardcore fantasy booking fever dream match.
The aftermath then became a blame game extraordinaire. What went wrong? Had the show gone too long, and exhausted the audience? Was Nakamura hampered by the WWE style? Did they just not get enough time? Did the wrong person go over? Was one of them working injured?
Frankly, none of those questions have anything to do with my placement of this match on this list. The fact is: AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura had a 20-minute match at WrestleMania, it was cold as ice, and nobody remembers anything about it except the post-match.
For me, that is abysmal, considering the two men were talking about, even if Nakamura had supposedly checked out.
