9. The New Day Vs. The Wyatt Family

The New Day vs. The Wyatt Family started with great promise. It was a logical rivalry between WWE’s two biggest trios, and Xavier Woods’ trepidation worked well to sell the Family’s ailing menace. Woods’ apparent indoctrination sewed seeds of doubt within the WWE Tag Team Champions, and while few thought they’d legitimately split up, the fractured New Day were more interesting than they’d been in months.

Sadly, things took a sharp left turn into the Wyatt Family Compound. WWE saw the success that “Broken” Matt Hardy and The Final Deletion had brought TNA, and this was their attempt at recreating their viral hype. It reeked of imitation from the moment Bray proposed The New Day join him and his brothers at the compound, and that’s how it panned-out.

The compound brawl wasn’t just a cheap copy, but a watered down one at that. WWE stripped away all the self-aware absurdity that made The Final Deletion such a hit, and presented a fairly typical hardcore clash in a slightly different setting. It lacked all of the original angle’s charm and humour, and had fans rolling their eyes instead of spreading the hype. A real low-point for WWE creative this year, and a shoddy angle all-round.
