An internet meme made Curtis Axel relevant for the first time in a while. Axel was attacked in the 2015 Royal Rumble by Erick Rowan and was taken out, but was never technically eliminated, a fact that many fans on Twitter made light of. The creative team took the ball and ran with it, having Axel come out and claim that because he was never eliminated, he should be put in the main event of Wrestlemania, changing the name to AxelMania. It was actually one of the more interesting parts of Raw. However, since Wrestlemania and Hulkamania both end in -Mania, Axel started saying AxelMania is running wild, which led to an in-ring showdown with Hulk Hogan. All of this was fine, until Axel started dressing like Hogan and coming out to his theme music. The act got old after about the second time. If theres any positive news that came out of the Hulk Hogan racism tape, its that Axel doesnt have to come out dressed as Hogan anymore.
