The Mountie's IC Title reign lasted only two days. Lucky for him, it's actually not the shortest run as champion although it was bad enough to give him the second spot on this list. He won the title from Bret Hart at a house show on January 17, 1992 at a time when Bret was going through contract negotiations although the storyline reason was that Bret had the flu. The match was never televised. They only announced it on a weekend update. At the 1992 Royal Rumble, he defended the IC Title against Roddy Piper in match that took place just two days after he won it. Piper ended up winning with a sleeper. It was Piper's first and only singles title win in WWE. He ended up dropping it back to Bret Hart a couple of months later at WrestleMania 8. The Mountie was just a guy for Piper to beat to win it in order to set up that great Hart/Piper match. The Mountie was the definition of what it means to be a transitional champion in that he took the title from one babyface and then lost it to another.
