In terms of the sheer travesty and complete lack of logic, nothing in the past ten years can be compared with this. The scenario could not have been simpler; the Fiend was the biggest thing in all of wrestling, Seth Rollins’ title reign had run out of steam and his Twitter antics had turned him into one of the most unlikable personalities in the business. Surely, surely there was only one result possible.

Not if you’re WWE. In an absolutely inexplicable manner, the match dragged on with Rollins hitting Wyatt with about five thousand Stomps and the most destructive move ever invented: the Pedigree. When it was nowhere near enough and the Fiend kept kicking out at one, Seth decided to unload with the weapons. After throwing everything but the kitchen sink, he turned to the Sledgehammer.

And then, the match ended. Literally, this was it. Rollins piled a bunch of hardware on Wyatt and slammed his head with the hammer, prompting the referee to simply end the match because that was too much for his fragile heart. A no contest because someone used a weapon, INSIDE HELL IN A CELL.

In the aftermath they tried to explain with the shoddy logic of it being a, “referee stoppage”, and not a disqualification. But that had as much weight as Dominick when he’s getting tossed in the air by Brock Lesnar.

The Field may have gotten the title eventually but that night deeply wounded his mystique and his persona. It should have been a night of dominance that propelled Wyatt to the next level. Instead, it turned into arguably the worst main event of the last ten years.
