WWE had entered a crucial time during this period. For the first time in perhaps a decade, the fans had found a hero who they would never give up on. And while SummerSlam the month before saw Daniel Bryan get screwed out of the WWE Championship, it was done in the best possible way.

So, when DB fought his way into this main event match for the big belt happening at the Battleground pay per view, the atmosphere was electric.

Sure, not a lot of people expected Bryan to win the title here given this would most likely be a long drawn out storyline, but that still does not excuse the awful ending to the match. The contest, while by no means a six stars in the Tokyo Dome, was ok for the most part. That is until, WWE decided to go back to the same old routine once again.

The Big Show lumbered out to the middle, knocked out everyone in sight, because he was the Authority’s really sentimental guard dog at the time, and the bout was ruled a no contest. Fans had come hoping for a crowning moment, but instead they got a double dose of one of the worst WWE tropes there is.
