10 Worst WWE Main Event Matches Of The Decade
5. The 2015 Royal Rumble
Oh boy, here we go again with this one. WWE had developed an unfortunate knack of getting the Royal Rumble spectacularly wrong during the middle part of the decade. While this was probably the second worst of the sh*t shows, any scenario which makes the crowd chant, “we want refunds”, “bullsh*t”, “we want Rusev (this was during his Vladimir Putin’s Biggest Fan run)”, and boo The Rock out of the building, is really, really bad.
Once more, all the signs were there beforehand. The fans were not liking Roman Reigns’ push as the top babyface and saw him as Cena 2.0. What’s more, Daniel Bryan had just made an emotional return from injury and it was all set up for a really compelling redemption angle where he recaptured the magic from one year ago.
When the Royal Rumble rolled around, WWE did the exact opposite of those wishes. Bryan barely lasted any time in the Rumble and Reigns won after an assist from big Dwayne. The strangest part about this match is that it probably could have been saved with some smart booking.
Keeping Bryan around till the end, giving some of the other over stars like Ziggler and Ambrose a realistic chance and definitely not having bloody Kane and the Big Show as the final competitors left with Reigns, could have perhaps at the very least prevented the outright revolt.
