10 Worst WWE Main Event Matches Of The Decade
4. The 2014 Royal Rumble
It was two in two for WWE from 2014 to 2015. The latter saw severe backlash to the Reigns victory and Bryan’s snub. However, it was the former that truly turned the wrestling world upside down.
What were they thinking? Daniel Bryan had garnered the kind of fan support not seen since the days of Steve Austin and The Rock. It should have been the easiest of booking decisions to put him in the top spot heading into WrestleMania. But nope, Vince was adamant on going back to his old stars, presumably extra impressed by Batista’s new belly button tattoo.
Before the Rumble, Bryan had been embroiled in an excellent feud with Bray Wyatt which concluded this very night. The YES! Man pinned the Eater of Worlds after an enthralling match. A result that only heightened the anticipation for his involvement in the Rumble. Which, as we now know, never came.
The 30 man match was actually pretty good, with Roman Reigns breaking records and emerging as a big star. Unfortunately none of it mattered because the one man everyone wanted to see, did not even appear. Batista won after last eliminating the Big Dog and everyone lost their damn minds. Worked out pretty OK in the end though.
