Following Cody Rhodes' WrestleMania 39 defeat to Roman Reigns, picking on the result of a comedy midcard match over a decade earlier almost feels as petty as it does futile. But make no mistake - the outcome of this useless effort is one of the big reasons why this specifically earned the disdain of the online masses.

From screwing Jerry Lawler out of the WWE Championship in November 2010, Michael Cole had become a thorn in everybody's side, doubling and trebling down on 'The King' in particular on their own Road To WrestleMania. It was grating by design in order to give people the catharsis of a squash at the 'Show Of Shows'. WWE offered neither.

In one of the longest matches on the entire show, Cole and Lawler virtually went hold for hold with each other until the veteran finally scored vindication and a victory. Only, he didn't. The Anonymous General Manager reversed the decision just to force two rematches that redefined diminished returns.

And Michael Cole will be back later!
