The origin story of Hornswoggle is a little different from many of those featured on this list, in that instead of being revealed to fans on night one, it was slowly pieced together bit by bit over the next two years.

To begin with, he was brought in as Little Bastard, a sidekick of Finlay who lived beneath the ring. Make no mistake here: he wasn't just supposed to be a man who dressed as a leprechaun, but an actual leprechaun.

This was tweaked a little in 2007, though, when he was outed as the illegitimate son of the chairman of the board, an angle that then was dropped early the following year when it emerged he was actually the son of the Belfast Brawler all along.

What we're left with is that Finlay fathered a leprechaun who he then encouraged to hide underneath the ring during his matches and who somehow ended up getting mistaken as a member of the McMahon Family. Sure, why not?
