10 Worst WWE Origin Stories
3. Jean-Pierre LaFitte
Think of pirate gimmicks in WWE and the first name that pops into your mind is probably Paul Burchill, but the conceit here wasn't too wacky. In fact, they practically acknowledged on screen that he was just cosplaying as Captain Jack Sparrow for a laugh.
Jean-Pierre LaFitte, on the other hand - who briefly competed in 1995 - was a different matter entirely. A descendant of real-life pirate Jean Lafitte, he actually appeared to spend his down-time plundering on the high sea.
By implication, his origin story was essentially that of someone from the late 20th century who decided to become a pirate after finding out that he was related to one who died nearly 200 years earlier.
Suffice to say, after testing the patience of the WWF audience, LaFitte's character was taken off air a couple of months later, and the man behind it - Carl Ouellet (no relation to Maryse) - was released from the company altogether a short while after. Shiver me timbers.
