10 Worst WWE Royal Rumble Winners

10. Lex Luger And Bret Hart - 1994

At the 1994 Royal Rumble, the WWE tried something that it never attempted before in its history: It had two winners of the Royal Rumble. One of them was Lex Luger, a recent WCW castoff who had joined the WWF with Vince McMahon hoping he could turn Lex into the next coming of Hulk Hogan. A recent main event push to a world title match at Summerslam 1993 resulted in a countout victory over Yokozuna but no world title. McMahon was trying to determine if Luger deserved another shot at the title at Wrestlemania X or if Luger's time in the WWF's main event scene was nearly finished. On the other side, you had Bret "The Hitman" Hart. Hart was a former world champion and crowd favorite thanks to his awesome in-ring ability and ability to have great matches with anyone in the company. Bret was being considered for another at the title but Vince couldn't decide whether to pull the trigger or not. So, in a situation where Vince was forced to decide to choose between the Hulk Hogan clone and the small but talented Canadian wrestler, Vince did what he thought was best for business. He choose both of them. In one of the weirdest finishes to the Rumble in history, Luger and Hart eliminated Fatu and Shawn Michaels before turning their attention to each other. Both men tumbled over the top rope and hit the floor "at the same time" (actually, Luger clearly hit first based on replay). The WWF did a little experimenting, announcing both guys as winners and then gauging crowd reaction to each wrestler to see who the crowd favored. Clearly, the crowd was a fan of Bret Hart. While it may have been an interesting social experiment, having co-winners for the Royal Rumble was a fairly stupid idea since it went against everything the Rumble stood for. A convoluted coin toss would be held later and Hart would wrestle twice at Wrestlemania X before capturing the world title from Yokozuna.
